Dance Core:Community Access to Art using Clean Energy Sources
Dance Core is a project of Weber Dance that integrates high quality concert dance, community access to art, and clean energy. Beginning with a regional tour of New England and continuing with a national tour, this innovative project will:
1. Build out a van to transport a portable dance floor and all lighting and sound equipment.
2. Utilize clean energy sources to charge all lighting and sound equipment.
.
3. Offer an evening-length dance performance to communities who do not normally have access to dance.
This project is unprecedented in the contemporary dance field and offers an opportunity to create a ground-breaking format for viewing dance. Phase I of the project is already complete with an innovative plan to equip a van with specially designed ports to house the lighting and sound equipment. The lighting system and the sound system will charge from one of two clean energy sources either while the van is in transit, or through a solar panel while parked before a performance. The van will house a specially designed portable sprung dance floor underneath the theatrical equipment that can be rolled out at location. The end result? A portable clean energy theater that can be assembled on any reasonably flat surface. Dance can be performed in parks, town squares, gymnasiums, barns, on football fields, bridges, rooftops- really anywhere with enough horizontal space to accommodate the dance and an audience. Weber Dance is deeply committed to creating work that generates conversation and interaction between the professional dancers and the audience. Offering performances in less formal settings to smaller audiences creates a very personal, intimate art experience. Artistic Director, Dr. Jody Weber, brings over 20 years of choreographic experience and a doctorate in dance history to her work. All of the performances include discussion of the artist’s inspiration and process, and provide the audience with the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the artists after the performance. Please join us by supporting this revolutionary project to bring dance to underserved communities across the nation.
